In short, Japan’s two Disney parks are set to look dramatically different in a couple of years than they did even 5 years ago. With attendance limits right now, this area is not yet operating at 100% and hasn’t even held its grand opening.įurther into the future, the Fantasy Springs expansion, consisting of new Frozen, Peter Pan, and Tangled mini-lands (plus a new hotel) over at Tokyo DisneySea is slated to open in the company’s 2023 fiscal year, which runs until March 31, 2024. Tokyo Disneyland’s blockbuster expansion opened quietly last fall, with the debut of the mega E-Ticket Beauty and the Beast ride and mini-land. Now, let’s dig into planning a trip to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea… What’s New & Next at Tokyo Disney Resort?

Total, we’d recommend Disney fans allocate around two-thirds of their trip to the cities of Kyoto and Tokyo–with more time in Kyoto. In our Ultimate Guide to Kyoto, Japan, we offer our “sales pitch” as to why we love it so much, and cover everything you need to know for planning a visit to that wonderful city. Kyoto is our favorite city in the world, and a place that we view as essential to a trip to Japan. While we like Tokyo, we far prefer Kyoto. Consult our Ultimate Tokyo, Japan City Guidefor recommendations in the city.

We recommend planning your time at Tokyo Disney Resort in tandem with where else you want to visit in Japan. If you’re just starting to plan a trip to Japan, there’s a lot to consider. We’re Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea Annual Passholders (or were until TDR cancelled those) who have dined in almost every restaurant and stayed in every single hotel at Tokyo Disney Resort. Prior to the closure, we visited Japan multiple times per year for 7 consecutive years, including several multi-month stays. We are slightly obsessed fans of Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. This Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland Guide has been refreshed dozens of times since we first wrote it, and more will be added over time as certain parts are clarified or expanded. We spend a ton of time planning our trips to Japan, and we’ve updated this almost neurotically as we learn from our travels and research. We cover all of the details of the border closure and make predictions as to when travel will resume in When Will Japan Reopen in 2022? Even that is incredibly optimistic and might potentially need to be cancelled. While a lot remains up in the air, we would not recommend planning a trip to Japan before March 2022. If you’re eager to take your first visit to Japan, or make a return visit to Tokyo Disney Resort for DisneySea’s 20th Anniversary, we are here to help you start planning! Unfortunately, Japan’s border is currently closed to international tourists and has been for almost two years. We have tips & tricks, where to stay, how long to visit, where to eat, best attractions to do, and other things to do while you’re in Japan. Our 2022 Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea vacation planning guide offers info for visiting.
